SACRAMENTO, California -- Arkansas returned to the top of Division I men's track and field, winning its first outdoor team title since 1999 with a strong showing in the distance events June 11-14 at Sacramento State.

Daniel Lincoln won two events and Alistair Cragg added 18 points to head Arkansas' collection of 59 points. The title is the Razorbacks' 10th outdoor crown overall, and comes on the heels of their first indoor championship since 2000.

Auburn was second, its best finish in the championships, with 50 points, with Southern California claiming third place with 41 1/2 points.

"What a way to finish it off," Arkansas head coach John McDonnell said. "It feels great. Especially for the seniors and Daniel Lincoln, who was such a big contributor. He's never had an outdoor team title and now he'll leave with everything. Chris Mulvaney was great after coming back from a hamstring injury at regionals to finish in a close second place."

The 5,000-meter run was the last running event for Arkansas, and it proved to be the clincher as Cragg won the race. "I was thankful for the slow pace," Cragg said. "I was ready to go this morning, but then I saw the team race getting very close. My arms and legs starting feeling like jelly. That's the first time the pressure really got to me like that. I knew I had to get 10 points."

Earlier, Cragg finished second in the 10,000-meter run behind Lincoln, who also earned his third straight victory in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. "Their (Cragg and Lincoln) performances were mint perfect against good runners who were fresh," McDonnell said. "It's amazing how they handled it. I knew they could do it. That's why I had them double."

Lincoln was the lone individual to repeat as an event winner and to win more than one event. Mulvaney added eight points with his runner-up effort in the 1,500-meter run, with Arkansas' Said Ahmed coming in fifth as well.

Leevan Sands led Auburn by winning the long jump and placing second in the triple jump. Dean Griffiths captured the 400-meter intermediate hurdles for the Tigers, whose best previous finish was third place in 2000.

Southern California's strength was in the jumps, as David Jaworski soared to victory in the high jump and Julien Kapek outdistanced the field in the triple jump.

LSU sprinted to wins in both the 400- and 1,600-meter relays with the same quartet of Kelly Willie, Robert Parham, Pete Coley and Bennie Brazell. It is the first time since the relays were added to the championships in 1964 that the same four runners have won both events in the same meet.
