NATIONAL COLLEGIATE
Dates and sites: The semifinals and final will be March 21 and 23 at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center in Duluth, Minnesota.
Field: Four teams, including one each from the East and West regions and two selected at large.
Selection date: March 16.
2002 champion: Minnesota-Duluth.
Top team contenders: Harvard, Minnesota, Minnesota-Duluth, Dartmouth, New Hampshire, St. Lawrence.
Players to watch: Jennifer Botterill, Harvard; Natalie Darwitz, Minnesota; Carly Haggard, Dartmouth; Jenny Potter, Minnesota-Duluth; Maria Rooth, Minnesota-Duluth; Krissy Wendell, Minnesota; Andrea Kilbourne, Princeton.
DIVISION III
Dates and sites: Two first-round games will be played March 14, 15 or 16, with semifinals and finals March 21-22 or 22-23. All games will be played at campus sites.
Field: Seven teams comprise the field -- four from automatic-qualifying conferences (Pool A); one from independent institutions (Pool B); and two at-large teams that do not qualify through their conference (Pool C).
Selection date: March 9.
2002 champion: Elmira.
Top team contenders: Middlebury, Manhattanville, Bowdoin, Elmira, Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Wisconsin-River Falls, Plattsburgh State, Williams.
Players to watch: Laura Hurd, Elmira; Shelly Chessie, Bowdoin; Angela Kapus, Middlebury; Lauren Chezick, Augsburg; Elizabeth Gibson, Plattsburgh State; Kristin Lillie, Elmira; Nicole Elliott, Manhattanville; Kate Kogut, Middlebury.
Minnesota-Duluth, which will host the 2003 National Collegiate championship, has won the only two championships. The Bulldogs also are the only team to qualify twice for the event.
