DIVISION I
Dates and sites: The opening-round game will be at Dayton March 18. First-/second-round games March 20 and 22 will be at Oklahoma City; Indianapolis; Salt Lake City; and Spokane, Washington. First-/second-round games March 21 and 23 will be at Boston; Tampa, Florida; Birmingham, Alabama; and Nashville, Tennessee. Regional play March 27 and 29 is at Minneapolis (Midwest) and Anaheim, California (West). Regional play March 28 and 30 is at Albany, New York (East) and San Antonio (South). The Final Four is April 5 and 7 at New Orleans.
Field: 65 teams, two of which will play an opening-round game.
Selection date: March 16.
2002 champion: Maryland.
Top team contenders: Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Texas, Kansas, Duke.
Players to watch: Salim Stoudamire, Arizona; Matt Bonner, Florida; Jarvis Hayes, Georgia; Nick Collison, Kansas; Keith Bogans, Kentucky; Brandin Knight, Pittsburgh; T.J. Ford, Texas.
DIVISION II
Dates and sites: Regional play will be on campus March 14, 15 and 17. The Elite Eight will be March 26 (quarterfinals), March 27 (semifinals) and March 29 (championship game) in Lakeland, Florida.
Field: 64 teams.
Selection date: March 10.
2002 champion: Metropolitan State.
Top team contenders: West Chester, Michigan Tech, Nebraska-Kearney, Massachusetts-Lowell, Rollins, Bowie State, Tarleton State, Cal State San Bernardino.
Players to watch: Ramzee Stanton, West Chester; Josh Buettner, Michigan Tech; Mike Gitt, Nebraska-Kearney; Dana Jones, Massachusetts-Lowell; Chad Dircks, Rollins; Tim Washington, Bowie State; Danny Jones, Tarleton State; Te'Ron Reed, Cal State San Bernardino.
DIVISION III
Dates and sites: First round is March 6; second round is March 8, both on campus. Sectionals are March 14-15 on campus. The semifinals (March 21) and championship game (March 22) are at Salem, Virginia.
Field: 48 teams.
Selection date: March 2.
2002 champion: Otterbein.
Top team contenders: Washington (Missouri), Hampden-Sydney, Randolph-Macon, Catholic, Wooster, Williams, Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Players to watch: Chris Jeffries, Washington (Missouri); Jeff Monroe Hampden-Sydney; Jared Mills, Randolph-Macon; Matt Hilleary, Catholic; Bryan Nelson, Wooster; Michael Crotty, Williams; Josh Iserloth, Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Since Wisconsin-Platteville under current Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan won consecutive titles in 1998 and 1999, no team has reached the semifinals two consecutive years.
