Division I
Dates and sites: Three regionals will be conducted May 8-10: Central -- Firethorn Golf Club, Lincoln, Nebraska (Nebraska, host); East -- Salem Glen Country Club, Winston-Salem, North Carolina (Wake Forest, host); and West -- Karsten Golf Course, Tempe, Arizona (Arizona State, host). The finals will be May 20-23 at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex at Purdue.
Field: Three 54-hole regionals will be conducted to determine the 126 participants in the championship.
Selection date: April 28.
2002 team champion: Duke.
2002 individual champion: Virada Nirapathpongporn, Duke.
Top team contenders: Duke, Pepperdine, Texas, Southern California, California, Arizona.
Top individual contenders: Erica Blasberg, Arizona; Lindsey Wright, Pepperdine; Katherine Hull, Pepperdine; Virada Nirapathpongporn, Duke; Mikaela Parmlid, Southern California.
Division II
Dates and sites: The following four regionals will be held May 6-7: East -- Findlay Country Club, Findlay, Ohio (Findlay, host); North -- Marshall Golf Club, Marshall, Minnesota (Southwest State, host); South -- Lone Palm Golf Club, Lakeland, Florida (Florida Southern, host); and West -- Muskogee Country Club, Muskogee, Oklahoma (Northeastern State, host). The finals will be May 14-17 at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort, Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The Central Florida Sports Commission and the Sunshine State Conference will host.
Field: Forty-eight student-athletes will compete in a 72-hole competition.
Selection date: April 28.
2002 team champion: Florida Southern.
2002 individual champion: Jana Peterkova, Florida Southern.
Top team contenders: Rollins, Florida Southern, St. Mary's (Texas), Longwood, Northern Colorado, Western Washington.
Top individual contenders: Pamela Feggans, Florida Southern; Amanda Diamond, Longwood; Freddie Seeholzer, Rollins; Jillian Wyne, St. Mary's (Texas).
Division III
Dates and sites: The Midwest Conference will host the finals May 13-16 at The Golf Courses of Lawsonia in Green Lake, Wisconsin.
Field: A total of 10 teams and 10 individuals from five regions will compete for the championship.
Selection date: May 5.
2002 team champion: Methodist.
2002 individual champion: Lynn Thompson, Thomas More.
Top team contenders: Methodist, Mary Hardin-Baylor, DePauw, Simpson, Saint Mary's (Indiana), Gustavus Adolphus.
Top individual contenders: Lynn Thompson, Thomas More; Jessie Hunter, Methodist; Michelle Meadows, Methodist; Julie Solomon, Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Last year, Duke's Virada Nirapathpongporn prevented teammate and senior Candy Hannemann from defending her 2001 individual title in Division I.
