Division I legislative review

The Management Council's recently created legislative review subcommittee will lead off the Division I "business" proceedings with an open, four-hour legislative review meeting Saturday, January 10, that also will be attended by members of the Management Council and Board of Directors. During this session, sponsors of proposals will have the opportunity to present their cases to the subcommittee and other Division I members in attendance.

The Saturday morning session is designed to generate discussion that will help the subcommittee set the legislative agenda for the Management Council meeting the next day, as well as prompt more conference meetings Saturday afternoon to develop positions on legislation and inform Management Council representatives before the Council's Sunday meeting.

Association-wide sessions

The following topics will be among those covered during Association-wide sessions Saturday, January 10:

Crisis management: How ready is your campus? The Inocon Group, which has served critical roles in operations, security and management during the 1996, 2000 and 2002 Olympic Games, as well as the 2003 Men's Final Four, will provide an overview of crisis-management fundamentals. Attendees will participate in a hands-on simulation of how an on-campus crisis might be prevented, anticipated and responded to, from a terrorist act, to a dorm fire, to a natural disaster.

Maintaining the integrity of intercollegiate athletics on campus. An overview of recent scandals in college sports, the swift reaction by university CEOs and a discussion of how the current reform movement might help prevent similar issues in the future.

The future of Olympic sports at NCAA institutions. An overview of the statistics, followed by a panel discussion on how to grow men's and women's Olympic sports.

Presidential sessions

The following topics will be covered for CEOs during sessions Sunday, January 11:

NCAA strategic plan -- president's preview. NCAA President Myles Brand will provide an overview of the NCAA strategic-planning process.

Crisis management: How ready is your campus? Presidents will participate in a session similar to the one offered in the Association-wide menu the previous day.

The integration of intercollegiate athletics and academics: A true change in philosophy, or business as usual with a different label? Presidents will participate in a panel discussion on the merits of combining athletics and academics under one administration.

Honors Dinner

Held Sunday evening, the NCAA Honors Dinner is a celebration of student-athlete achievement. Among those recognized during the program are the Silver Anniversary Award winners, the Today's Top VIII and the Theodore Roosevelt Award recipient. NCAA Inspiration Awards and the Award of Valor also are given during the Honors Dinner.
