Jim Paronto, former athletics director at Mesa State University, has accepted the position of secretary-rules editor with the NCAA's Baseball Rules Committee.
Paronto, who currently works in private business, has a unique mix of experience in athletics administration, coaching and officiating.
In this position, Paronto will be the official rules interpreter on behalf of the Baseball Rules Committee. He will serve as the contact for those in the membership and umpiring community needing clarification of NCAA baseball rules.
Paronto will assist in the publication and writing of the NCAA Baseball Rules book, which is published annually, and also will assist with the annual rules video presentation. Additionally, Paronto will present the committee's rules changes at umpiring clinics before the start of the season.
Paronto's experience in collegiate athletics is varied and extensive. He served in athletics administration at Mesa State, including as athletics director from 1994 to 1998.
Paronto also was athletics director and associate professor at Adams State College from 1977 to 1981. Paronto has more than 30 years of experience in officiating, receiving several postseason assignments at different levels.
Paronto received his bachelor's degree from Adams State in secondary education in 1965 and a master's degree in physical education in 1966, also from Adams State.
Paronto also earned a doctorate in athletics administration from Brigham Young University.
