The NCAA currently is accepting applications for its Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Males, which this year is entitled "Preparing Diverse Leaders for a Dynamic Athletics Community."
The Institute is designed to prepare diverse leaders in intercollegiate athletics through a 12-month leadership training and skills development experience.
Enrollment will be limited, and each participant must complete four weekend development sessions on leadership and administration; human resource management; finance and fund-raising; and booster, public and media relations before enrolling in the week-long intensive workshop.

NCAA President Cedric W. Dempsey has announced that the Association will reduce the scope of the NCAA Foundation. Dempsey made the announcement after a review found that the public does not view current Foundation programs as causes that prompt major gift giving or sponsorship. The study also indicated that the Foundation does not have a compelling case for private giving, nor does it have a defined constituency.

Women's volleyball coaches should look for a mailing from the NCAA Women's Volleyball Rules Committee the week of April 1. The mailing contains a call for proposals form for the annual rules survey and the new libero language that will appear in the 2002 rules book. Those with questions about the mailing should telephone committee liaison Keri A. Potts at 317/917-6222.

The NCAA's search for a successor to President Cedric W. Dempsey has begun with the preliminary identification of a search firm to help identify the right candidates.Dempsey announced in January that he would leave when his term expires at the end of this year.
The firm of Baker-Parker and Associates has emerged from a pool of 23 firms contacted in March as the preliminary choice of the NCAA search committee, which is composed of NCAA Executive Committee members Bob Lawless, president of the University of Tulsa; Brit Kirwan, president of Ohio State University; Patricia Cormier, president of Longwood College; and Bette Landman, president of Arcadia University.
