The NCAA is seeking peer reviewers to assist the Association in the second cycle of the athletics certification program.
External peer-review teams, composed of experienced educational and athletics personnel, are responsible for verifying that the institution's self-study was accurate and complete and that it was characterized by campus-wide participation. They also are responsible for evaluating whether the institution conforms with the operating principles approved for all Division I members.
Teams include chief executive officers, directors of athletics, faculty athletics representatives, senior woman administrators or others who have a recognized expertise in particular areas addressed in the certification program. Individuals who are retired and have been employed at a Division I institution in one of those positions also may be considered.
Interested individuals can obtain an application through NCAA Online (www.ncaa.org) or contact Susan Peal at the national office at 317/917-6222 or via e-mail at speal@ncaa.org.

Indiana Gov. Frank O'Bannon has signed legislation allowing the NCAA to float bonds through the state.
The bonds allow tax-exempt financing for extraordinary expenses, such as to settle lawsuits. Under the legislation, which takes effect immediately, the Indiana Development Finance Agency can issue bonds to the NCAA. Any such bonds will not be backed by the state.
The NCAA currently has no reason to use the new law.

The Division I-A Athletic Directors Association has announced it will appoint a group of Division I-A athletics directors and faculty athletics representatives to examine the feasibility of a single annual NCAA legislative cycle. It also will explore possible changes in the voting process.
In a March 4 announcement, the athletics directors association said that it and a group of Division I-A faculty athletics representatives believe the current structure "falls short of promoting institutional involvement."
NCAA Regional Rules-Compliance Seminars will be conducted May 1-3 in Indianapolis, May 15-17 in Phoenix and May 29-31 in Atlanta.
More information about the seminars may be found on NCAA Online (www.ncaa.org) in the Membership section.
