Pat Ponder was named as head track and field and cross country coach at Texas A&M-Commerce, succeeding Phil Williams.
For the past year, Ponder has been head track and field and cross country coach at Wayland Baptist University. He formerly was an assistant track and field coach at Texas A&M-Commerce from 1996 to 2001 and also was head cross country coach from 1999 to 2001. Ponder also has spent six years as head coach at Northwood and fulfilled head coaching responsibilities at Henderson State from 1989 to 1990.
Ponder competed in track and cross country at Ouachita Baptist. Before graduating in 1988, he was a three-time all-Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference selection and the school record-holder in the 10,000 meters. Ponder earned a master's degree in physical education from Henderson State in 1989.

NATIONAL OFFICE
Greg Graham was named as basketball mentoring program coordinator at the NCAA. Graham has been serving on a contract basis with the national office's education services group for the past six months.
CORRECTION
Women's lacrosse student-athletes from William Smith College who were among Division III statistical leaders for the 2002 season were incorrectly listed as being from Hobart College in the final statistics published in the July 22 issue of The NCAA News.
Bill Whitmore, former sports information director at Rice, died August 28. He was 81.
Former Georgia football defensive tackle Jake Richardson died recently of kidney failure. Richardson, 38, competed at the school from 1982 to 1985.
Abe Lemons, former men's basketball coach at Texas, Oklahoma City University and Texas-Pan American, died September 2 after a long illness. He was 79.
Brandon Hall, a football defensive tackle at Minnesota, was fatally shot September 1. Hall, a pre-business major, was redshirted in 2001.
