Fort Worth Star-Telegram
"The NCAA does not control two of the most important components of intercollegiate athletics: football television and the operation of the football bowl system. The BCS schools are now dictating the direction of intercollegiate football. If the NCAA is to be the association of institutions for the coordination of intercollegiate competitions, there is going to have to be a resolution of the football TV and bowl question."
Kellen Winslow, sports commentator
Boulder (Colorado) Daily Camera
"If (black prospects) begin to ask (about the racial makeup of college coaching staffs), you will begin to see more and more coaches of color with chances to be offensive and defensive coordinators and head coaches. We don't have to knock down doors, march down the streets or burn any buildings. Just ask the question and respond to the answer. And if we do that, the process of integration moves beyond that glass ceiling. And we can stop giving lip service to (the issue of diversity in football coaching) and move forward."
Bob Minnix, associate director of athletics
Florida State University
Jackson (Mississippi) Clarion-Ledger
"The accumulation effect is what's going on. Coaches need to know they're not going to get crucified for turning themselves in for a secondary violation. In some cases, it sounds a lot worse than it is. The compliance guy on campus doesn't have to be the bad cop. He doesn't have to be looked at as the guy wearing the trench coat who they don't want to talk to. What I always preach is that we're all on the same team."
