The Game of Life" will go overtime at the 2002 NCAA Convention.
Not only will the celebrated book be discussed January 13 during an Association-wide menu session for chief executive officers, it also will be the subject of examination during the Division III issues forum later that day.
In both sessions, co-author James Shulman will present the book's findings and take questions from the audience.
The book -- written by William G. Bowen, former president of Princeton University, and Shulman, financial and administrative officer for the Mellon Foundation -- was designed to present data dealing with "myths that permeate college sports."
After it was released in January, the book was widely read in college athletics circles. Division III audiences were especially attracted to "The Game of Life," which asserts that Division III athletes have an advantage over non-athletes when it comes to admissions.
