UC Davis let the Division II women's rowing community know who was boss during the inaugural Division II championship May 31-June 2 at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis.
The Aggies won both varsity eight events and earned the maximum total of 50 points to row away with the team crown.
In the I Eights, the Aggies defeated Western Washington by almost 10 seconds. UC Davis' time of 7:06.64 easily outdistanced the Vikings' 7:15.68. The Aggies posted a similar margin of victory over the same team in the II Eights, winning the race with a time of 7:17.98, compared to Western Washington's 7:27.14.
The two second-place finishes gave Western Washington the second-place spot in the team standings. Rollins finished third, followed by Barry.
This was the first year that three separate division championships had been held in rowing. The event had been a National Collegiate championship since 1997.
"Having all three divisions together is just awesome," said UC Davis head coach Emily Plesser. "It just speaks volumes to what we have here and what rowing has become in the United States. I think that to have three divisions here, and be able to mix it up with three divisions crossing over is great."
