Following are interpretations that were approved by the Division II Management Council at its January 11 meeting:
Competition Day Time Limitations -- Exempt Scrimmages
1. The committee reviewed 2002 Convention Proposal No. 22 and determined that activities associated with participation in an exempted scrimmage (for example, travel, warm-up, breaks between contests, etc.) shall not count against the time limitations on such scrimmages. The actual time spent in participation is the amount of time that shall count and such time may not exceed four hours per day. (Reference: 2002 Convention Proposal No. 22.)
Time for Nonchampionship Segment Competition
2. The committee reviewed 2002 Convention Proposal No. 24 and determined that activities associated with participation in contests conducted in the nonchampionship segment are subject to the restriction on missed class time. Institutions are precluded from allowing a student-athlete to miss class to participate in contests in the nonchampionship segment; and this prohibition does include activities associated with such competition, such as travel and other pregame and postgame activities.
