A new Football Issues Project Team has been appointed to examine football issues specific to Division II.
The Division II Administrative Committee appointed the group in a December 5 conference call. Jerry McGee, president of Wingate University, will chair the project team.
McGee has served as a Division II representative to the meetings of the Division I Football Study Oversight Committee. However, as the Division I group's examination developed, the Division II leadership grew convinced that a division-specific project team was warranted.
The first meeting of the Division II project team likely will take place in late February or early March. The group contains a representative from every Division II football-playing conference.
Besides McGee, other project team members are:
Nancy Belck, chancellor of the University of Nebraska at Omaha; Ken Borden, faculty athletics representative at the University of Indianapolis; Robert E. Burke, athletics director at American International College; Jon Carey, athletics director at Western Oregon University; Lisa Colvin, senior woman administrator at Southern Arkansas University (ex officio); Bernard W. Franklin, president of Virginia Union University (ex officio); Mary Gardner, athletics director at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania; Jerry M. Hughes, athletics director at Central Missouri State University; Stan D. Lambert, athletics director at Abilene Christian University; Mike Lockrem, commissioner of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference; Monique Morgan, assistant to the commissioner of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association; Irvin D. Reid, president of Wayne State University (Michigan); Michael J. Marcil, commissioner of the North Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference; Herb F. Reinhard, athletics director at Valdosta State University; Bradley R. Smith, athletics director at Chadron State College; Robert C. Vowels Jr., commissioner of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference; Greg Warzecka, athletics director at the University of California, Davis; and James Watson, athletics director at West Liberty State College. A student-athlete also will be appointed to the group.
