Facilities: Wichita State University dedicated its new track and field facility April 10, marking the end of a seven-month, $1.3 million construction project. The 30,000-seat Cessna Stadium project included adding an eighth lane and resurfacing the track, reconfiguring the infield event layout, and building separate locker rooms for the Wichita State men's and women's track and field teams. "This is one of the most significant construction developments on our campus for many years," said Jim Schaus, Wichita State's director of athletics. "It will be one of the finest track complexes in the country." The most noticeable amenity is the addition of an eighth lane and a new, thicker polyurethane surface. The new track also has a wider radius, which allows for additional space inside the track for field events. The combination of the new surface and slightly wider turns makes for a faster track for runners. "The number of ways that an eight-lane track and reconfigured layout will enhance the program at Wichita State are immeasurable because of the variety of groups it impacts," said Steve Rainbolt, second-year Wichita State track and field coach. "Primary for me is the Wichita State track and field program, but I'm also a guy who cares a lot about the track and field coaches and athletes who will compete in the state high-school championship. The facility will benefit them tremendously."

Milestones: Sacred Heart University's softball team gave coach Elizabeth "Bippy" Luckie her 300th career victory in a 6-0 Northeast Conference victory over St. Francis (New York) April 7. Now in her 14th season, Luckie has a 301-243-3 record at her alma mater, where she was a two-time all-America shortstop and led the Pioneers to three straight NCAA Division II championships from 1983 through 1985.
