Denver freshman Ola Berger won both men's cross country races to lead the Pioneers to their third straight National Collegiate Men's and Women's Skiing Championships team title March 6-9, at Anchorage, Alaska.

Utah was the last team to win three straight, taking the title in 1986 through 1988.

The Pioneers have won a record 17 team titles. Colorado is in second place with 15. Denver holds the record for consecutive championships, having won seven straight from 1961 to 1967.

The Pioneers swept the top three places in the men's 10-kilometer classical cross country race on the second day of the championships, a performance that pushed the defending champions into first place in team points to stay, past Utah, which led at the end of the first day. Denver skier Pietro Broggini, who won the 20-kilometer freestyle last year, finished second, while defending champion and fellow Pioneer Wolf Wallendorf was third.

In the women's 15-kilometer freestyle cross country race March 9, Nevada's Katerina Hanusova avenged her second-place showing in the 5-kilometer classical race days before, which was the first loss of the 2002 Olympian's college career. The Czech Republic skier beat the next finisher by two minutes to successfully defend the championship she won last year, when she won both women's Nordic races.

Aurore De Maulmont of host Alaska Anchorage took advantage of her home-hill edge by becoming the first female Alpine skier from her school to win an NCAA championship race. With her team hosting for the first time since 1988, De Maulmont posted the second-fastest time in each of her two runs in the women's giant slalom to edge Utah's April Mancuso by two one-hundredths of a second. The La Marotte, France, native's win gave Alaska Anchorage its sixth individual winner in championship history.

Roger Brown of Dartmouth edged Utah's Pierre Olsson by .35 seconds in the men's slalom to give his school its first individual title since 1999. Olsson also finished second in the men's giant slalom.
