The NCAA Core-Course Review 2001 Update recently was mailed to the nation's high schools from the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse.
The packet contains forms to update Clearinghouse records, as well as core-course requirements and submission forms.
The update packets also will be mailed to the Clearinghouse's primary contact at Divisions I and II member institutions after the high-school mailing is completed.
High-school personnel are being asked to return the core-course submission forms and high-school update information by April 15 in order to receive an updated list of NCAA-approved core courses to use in time to counsel students for the 2001-02 school year.

Congress again is considering NCAA-supported legislation that would ban gambling on all intercollegiate sporting events throughout the nation.
On March 20, Reps. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina; Ron Kind, D-Wisconsin; Tom Osborne, R-Nebraska; and Tim Roemer, D-Indiana reintroduced legislation --the "Student-Athlete Protection Act" (H.R. 1110) -- that is identical to legislation that failed to reach the floor of either chamber last year after being favorably reported out of committee.
H.R. 1110 would remove the "Nevada loophole" from the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, which allows Nevada to be the only state in the U.S. to conduct legal gambling on collegiate sports.
The Nevada Congressional delegation has introduced a rival bill in both the House and Senate.
