North Carolina-Greensboro has selected Eddie Radwanski as head women's soccer coach. Radwanski succeeds Jack Poland, who resigned, closing his tenure with a 163-92-8 overall mark.
In addition to serving three years as head coach and coaching director for the Twisters Soccer Club of Greensboro, Radwanski also guided the W-2 League member Piedmont Spark to a 1999 regular-season championship. He was a volunteer assistant women's soccer coach at North Carolina-Greensboro in 1998.
As a student-athlete at North Carolina-Greensboro, Radwanski helped the squad capture the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship in 1982 and 1983. A two-time first-team all-American, he was the first overall selection in the 1985 Major Indoor Soccer League draft. Radwanski competed professionally in indoor and outdoor leagues for 12 years.
Radwanski earned a bachelor's degree in business and economics from North Carolina-Greensboro.

Neilsen replaces Martin Scarano and interim athletics director Julie Soriero ... Anita Fanelli was hired as athletics director at Cedar Crest. Most recently, Fanelli has been an activities director at the high-school level.

Central Arkansas hired Kristen Davis as senior assistant athletics director/senior woman administrator. Davis has been a membership services representative at the NCAA since 1995.

Baseball assistants -- Karl Kuhn was elevated to associate head coach at Arkansas-Little Rock. Kuhn has been an assistant with the program ... Brockport State added Mike Ferreri and Kevin Whelehan as assistant coaches ... Kevin Smith was chosen as an assistant coach at Fordham.
Men's basketball -- Warren Friedrichs, head coach at Whitworth, announced plans to retire, effective at the end of the season ... Jerry DeGregorio resigned as head coach at Rhode Island, effective at the end of the season ... Minnesota State-Mankato head coach Dan McCarrell announced plans to retire at the end of the school year.
Field hockey -- Christine Blais assumed duties as head coach at Sacred Heart.
Football -- Sacramento State awarded head coach John Volek with a contract extension through 2003 ... Pete Lembo was elevated to head coach at Lehigh. Replacing Kevin Higgins, who became quarterbacks coach for the NFL's Detroit Lions, Lembo has been with the program for three years ... Kentucky head coach Hal Mumme resigned after four seasons. Football assistants -- Keith Willis assumed duties as an assistant coach at Boston College ... Southwest Texas named Fred Tate as defensive line coach ... Stephen Dunlap was added as an assistant at Syracuse. Most recently, Dunlap spent 17 years as an assistant at West Virginia, including serving the past 13 as defensive coordinator ... Western Michigan appointed Wally Ake as defensive backs coach. From 1997 to 2000, Ake fulfilled defensive coordinator duties at Maryland ... Rob Chudzinski was elevated to offensive coordinator at Miami (Florida). For the past five years, Chudzinski has worked as tight ends coach ... Men's and women's golf -- Westminster (Pennsylvania) hired Debi Behr as head women's coach. The program is scheduled to begin varsity competition during the 2001-02 season. Behr has been with Westminster since 1990 as a teacher in the College Preschool Lab and has been special needs coordinator at the school since 1994 ... Monmouth (Illinois) appointed Dave Ragone as interim head men's coach. Ragone also works as an assistant football coach.
Men's and women's lacrosse assistant -- Matthew N. Klank was hired as assistant men's coach at Drew. Klank has most recently coached at Villanova.
Men's soccer -- Bret Simon resigned as head coach at Creighton to become head men's coach at Stanford. Simon has guided Creighton to a 96-26-9 record in six seasons ... New England added Tim Moody as head coach ... Fran O'Leary was chosen as head coach at George Mason, succeeding the retired Gordon Bradley. For the past seven seasons, O'Leary has led the program at Dartmouth ... Goucher appointed Gary Dunda as head coach ... Mark Talan resigned as head coach at St. Mary's (California).
Women's soccer -- Robert Morris awarded head coaching responsibilities to John Kowalski, who replaced Libbie Tobin. Kowalski has been head coach for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds A-League squad.
Women's soccer assistant -- Missouri added Manoj Khettry as assistant women's coach.
Softball -- Mike Olsen assumed additional duties as interim head coach at Monmouth (Illinois). Olsen also has responsibilities as an assistant football coach.
Men's and women's swimming -- Bill Beecher was chosen as head women's coach at Radford ... Kirk Sanocki was chosen as head women's coach at Wingate. For the past three years, Sanocki has been assistant swimming coach and assistant director of aquatics at Western Maryland.
Men's and women's tennis -- Dan Markowitz assumed responsibilities as head men's and women's coach at Pace.
Men's and women's track and field --Zac Roberts was elevated to track coach at Dubuque. Roberts has served as men's and women's cross country coach.
Men's and women's track and field assistant -- Tonya Morrison was awarded responsibilities as assistant men's and women's coach at DePaul.
Men's and women's volleyball -- Carthage selected Leanne Ullmer as head women's coach. Ullmer has been girls' coach at Adlai Stevenson (Illinois) High School ... Kris Peterson was appointed as head coach at Central Arkansas. Peterson formerly served as an assistant at Eastern Kentucky ... Tarleton State added John Schmidt as head women's coach to replace Damon Wilson. Schmidt has been an assistant at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Men's and women's volleyball assistants -- Terene Foutz accepted assistant coaching duties at Mesa State ... Long Beach State added Cheri Swatek as an assistant coach.

Svoboda has been assistant sports information director at Franklin Pierce ... Ira P. Thor was elevated to full-time sports information director at New Jersey City. Thor has been fulfilling the post on a part-time basis since September ... Wellesley hired Patrick Kiley as sports information director to replace Alison DiTomaso, who resigned after four years. Kiley has been assistant director of institutional advancement for Archbishop Spalding (Maryland) High School.
ASSOCIATIONS
The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics elevated Pat Manak to assistant executive director, administration. Manak has been assistant director of administration since 1995.
CORRECTION
A story in the February 12 issue of The NCAA News incorrectly stated the origin of regional format proposals for Division II golf and tennis championships. The Championships Committee acted on its own, rather than on recommendations from sports committees, in establishing a 10-region format for the Division II Men's Golf Championships and a nine-region format for the Division II Men's and Women's Tennis Championships.
Robert W. Morse
, former president at Case Western Reserve, died January 19. Morse, 79, also served as dean of the college at Brown.Raymond Lewis, former Cal State Los Angeles basketball player, died February 11 from complications after amputation of an infected leg. Lewis, 48, established the school's single-season scoring record in 1972-73 with 789 points.
Jessica Kamp, a junior softball player at Illinois College, was killed in a one-vehicle automobile accident February 11. Last season, Kamp established a school record by striking out 55 batters.
