The Purdue University wrestling team, which helps support the Dream Factory, helped make a little boy's dream come true recently.
The Boilermakers presented 12-year-old Avery Bell of Rensselaer, Indiana, with tickets to the Green Bay Packers' opening game against the Detroit Lions September 9 at Lambeau Field.
Bell, a seventh grader who suffers from cystic fibrosis, attended the game with his parents and spent the weekend in Green Bay.
Bell received the tickets from the Boilermakers' four senior wrestlers in a special presentation in the Mackey Arena Conference Room at Purdue. Those presenting were student-athletes Jeremy Bibelhauser, Jon Fitch, Jake Vercelli and Jared Williams.
"This is a great opportunity for our wrestlers to help a boy enjoy his life to the fullest," said assistant coach Scott Hinkel. "By spending time with Avery, our wrestlers are able to see how fortunate they are to be participating in intercollegiate athletics. He gives them a cause to rally around."
Bell was named Purdue's honorary captain for the team's home wrestling match against the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and the Boilermakers also have invited Bell to every home match this season.
The Boilermakers host fund-raisers throughout the year to raise money for the Dream Factory, which grants dreams to children between the ages of 3 and 18 who have been diagnosed with critical or chronic illnesses.
