Ivory V. Nelson, president of Lincoln University (Pennsylvania), has been appointed to the Division III Presidents Council to fill the term of Gloria R. Scott, former president of Bennett College, who retired.

Nelson's term expires at the close of the 2003 NCAA Convention, but he is eligible for reappointment.

Nelson became the 12th president of Lincoln in 1999. Before that, he was president of Central Washington University for seven years. Before coming to Central Washington, Nelson served as chancellor of the Alamo Community College District in San Antonio. He also was executive assistant to the chancellor of the Texas A&M University System and acting president of Prairie View A&M University.

Nelson graduated magna cum laude from Grambling State University with a bachelor's degree in secondary education, with an emphasis on chemistry. Nelson earned his doctorate in analytical chemistry from the University of Kansas.

Nelson has authored 11 technical publications in the field of analytical chemistry and he has been a research chemist for Union Carbide and the American Oil Company.

A recipient of a Fulbright Lectureship, Nelson has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in chemistry and has served as department head, assistant dean of academic affairs and vice-president for research.

Nelson has served on the board of directors of Key Bank of Washington and was appointed to the Washington State Commission on Student Learning by the governor of Washington. He also was a member of the Governor's Blue Ribbon Task Force on the Arts in that state.
