For almost two decades, the Division III women's swimming world has lived with Kenyon as its icon at the top.

That changed March 10.

Denison took the lead from the first event of the meet. Mollie Parrish, Leah Favret, Kate Flikkema and Erin Stanley captured the 200-yard freestyle relay and set the tone for the championships. In the second event of the night, Tamara Carty won the 500-yard freestyle for the Big Red. Strong showings in the next three events and a meet-record performance in the 400-yard medley relay gave Denison a 189-156 lead over the Ladies.

Day two saw the Big Red widen the lead by 34 points (416-349) thanks to wins in the 200-yard medley and 800-yard freestyle relays, as well as individual wins by Parrish (meet record) in the 100-yard butterfly and Stanley in the 200-yard freestyle.

Kenyon made a move on the last day of competition and almost succeeded. Five Ladies collected points in the 1,650-yard freestyle, and although Carty won the event, Kenyon closed the gap in the team standings to 440-405. The Ladies' best time in the event came from defending champion Neala Kendall, who placed third. Then, Erica Carroll swam to her third 200-yard backstroke title in four years -- her 15th overall -- and pushed the Ladies to a 455-454 advantage.

The Kenyon lead disappeared, though, when Stanley and Flikkema placed first and fifth, respectively, in the 100-yard freestyle. One event later, Denison stretched its lead with Alyssa Heidinger's second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke. With little movement in the points after the next two events, the last event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, would determine the winner. Maintaining a 554-532 advantage heading into the race, Dension finished second to Kenyon in the event but ended an era overall.

In diving, Springfield posted a one-two finish in three-meter diving. Williams' Rachel Gealy won the one-meter event.

Denison's Mollie Parrish, who won the 100-yard butterfly event and contributed to three relay wins, was named swimmer of the meet, and Denison coach Gregg Parini was named coach of the meet.
