Four-time winner turns meet into Truman show

Truman unseated four-time champion Drury at the Division II Women's Swimming and Diving Championships March 15-17.

The title is the first for last year's runner-up. Truman collected 656 points to Drury's 610 1/2 points during the four-day meet.

Much of Truman's success came at the hands of swimmer-of-the-meet Jess Martin, who displayed versatility and endurance with victories in the 200-, 500-, 1,000- and 1,650 freestyles. Drury failed to replicate the overwhelming success it had a year ago, which opened the door for other swimmers to earn key points for their teams.

UC San Diego's Jennifer Watanabe took the 200- and 400-yard individual medley swims and the 200-yard backstroke, and teammate Sandra Lopez claimed the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes to help the Tritons to 413 1/2 points and a third-place finish. North Dakota posted solid finishes in several events to earn fourth place with 352 points. Corey Dennis grabbed the 100-and 200-yard butterfly events for fifth-place West Chester (351 points).

Diver of the meet Stephanie Sutton swept the one- and three-meter dives for Clarion, which finished just out of the top five.
