Since Sloan became president at Miles, the institution's enrollment has tripled, the curriculum has been redefined and the endowment has increased from $650,000 to more than $8 million.

During his tenure, Sloan has chaired the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Presidents Council.

He earned his B.A. from Albany State College and a master of divinity degree from the Interdenominational Theological Center, Atlanta University Complex. He also holds a J.D. from Miles, a doctor of divinity degree from Faith Grant College and a doctor of laws degree from Texas College. He also was a Ford Foundation Fellow for doctoral studies.

Before her move to Alaska, Allen worked at the University of North Carolina, Asheville, for eight years. She was associate AD for one year after serving as assistant AD from 1990-93.
