Acting for the Division I Management Council, the Academics/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet Subcommittee on Legislative Review/Interpretations issued the following interpretations:
Benefits/Transportation/
Foreign Tours
1. Foreign Tour -- Providing Transportation Expenses. It is not permissible for an institution to provide a student-athlete with a ticket to depart for a foreign tour before the team's scheduled departure. [References: Bylaw 16.9.2 (post-tour stay) and Proposal No. 2000-104 (permissible benefits -- miscellaneous).]
Financial Aid/Professional Athlete
2. Application of Proposal No. 2000-61 to Partial Qualifiers and Nonqualifiers. Proposal No. 2000-61, which specifies that an institution may award financial aid to a professional athlete, provided he or she has completed four seasons of competition and has received not more than five years of aid within the six years after initial enrollment in a collegiate institution, is applicable to a partial qualifier or nonqualifier who has exhausted his or her seasons of competition.
