The NCAA News

DIVISION I

Dates and site: The championships will be March 9 and 10 at Arkansas.

Field: A total of 270 athletes will compete in the championships. Athletes qualify by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.

Selection date: The spots remaining in the field after the automatic qualifiers are entered will be filled from the descending-order list of provisional qualifiers March 5.

2000 champion: UCLA.

Top team contenders: Arkansas, Clemson, Kansas State, South Carolina, UCLA.

Top individual contenders: Florence Ezeh, Southern Methodist; Lauren Fleshman, Stanford; Teneeshia Jones, Mississippi; Lilli Kleinmann, Arkansas; Muna Lee, LSU; Amy Mortimer, Kansas State; Jamine Moton, Clemson; Tracy O'Hara, UCLA; Demetria Washington, South Carolina.

DIVISION II

Dates and site: The championships will be March 9 and 10 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston. The Eastern College Athletic Conference is the host.

Field: A total of 154 athletes will compete in the championships. Athletes qualify by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.

Selection date: The spots remaining in the field after the automatic qualifiers are entered will be filled from the descending-order list of provisional qualifiers February 27.

2000 champion: Abilene Christian.

Top team contenders: Abilene Christian, Lewis, St. Augustine's, South Dakota.

Top individual contenders: Maresa Cadienhead, Abilene Christian; Carlene Cumming, St. Augustine's; Kia Davis, St. Augustine's; Florencia Hunt, St. Augustine's; Lana Jekabsone, Lewis; Heather Leverington, Emporia State; Hillerie Shelton, Abilene Christian; Molly Wedel, South Dakota.

DIVISION III

Dates and site: The championships will be March 9 and 10 at Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Field: A total of 200 athletes will compete in the championships. Athletes qualify by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.

Selection date: The spots remaining in the field after the automatic qualifiers are entered will be filled from the descending-order list of provisional qualifiers March 5.

2000 champion: Wheaton (Massachusetts).

Top team contenders: Lincoln (Pennsylvania), Wheaton (Massachusetts), Williams, Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Top individual contenders: April Haney, Eastern Oregon; Maggie Hanson, Hamilton; Tenille Johnson, Wheaton (Massachusetts), Rhondale Jones, Lincoln (Pennsylvania); Lisa Mickelson, Wisconsin-La Crosse; Healy Thompson, Williams; Heidi Wolfsberger, Moravian.

Abilene Christian edged North Dakota State, 48-47, to win its eighth straight Division II title in 2000, the first time any NCAA women's indoor track championship has been decided by a single point.
