DIVISION I

Dates and sites: Opening-round game is March 13 at Dayton, Ohio. March 15 first-round games are at Long Island, New York; Greensboro, North Carolina; San Diego; and Boise, Idaho. Second-round games at those sites will be played March 17. March 16 first-round games are at Dayton, Ohio; Kansas City, Missouri; Memphis, Tennessee; and New Orleans. Second-round games for those sites will be played March 18. The East and West regionals will be played March 22 and 24 in Philadelphia and Anaheim, California, respectively. The Midwest and South regionals will be played March 23 and 25 in San Antonio and Atlanta, respectively. The Final Four will be March 31 and April 2 in Minneapolis, hosted by Minnesota.

Field: The tournament bracket will include 65 teams. Two teams will play in an opening-round game. Sixty-four teams will play in the first round. The champions of 31 conferences will receive automatic qualification. All other slots are at-large. There is no limit on the number of teams that can be selected from an individual conference.

Selection date: March 11.

2000 champion: Michigan State.

Top team contenders: Arizona, Duke, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan State, North Carolina, Michigan State and Stanford, among others.

Players to watch: Shane Battier, Duke; Joseph Forte, North Carolina; Casey Jacobsen, Stanford; Troy Murphy, Notre Dame; Jason Williams, Duke.

DIVISION II

Dates and sites: Regionals are March 8-10 or 9-11 at sites to be determined by the Division II Men's Basketball Committee. The Elite Eight will be March 21 (quarterfinals), 22 (semifinals) and 24 (championship) at Cal State Bakersfield's Centennial Garden.

Field: The bracket provides for a maximum of 48 teams. The champions of 20 conferences will receive automatic qualification.

Selection date: March 4.

2000 champion: Metropolitan State.

Contending teams: Adelphi, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State San Bernardino, Kentucky Wesleyan, Northern Kentucky, Queens (North Carolina), Salem International, South Dakota, South Dakota State, Southern Indiana, Wingate.

Players to watch: Matt Carter, Southern Indiana; Lajuan Christon, Southern Indiana; Luke Condill, South Dakota State; Rich Edwards, Adelphi; J.R. Gamble, Queens (North Carolina); Brian Lawhon, Northern Kentucky; Nate Tibbets, South Dakota.

DIVISION III

Dates and sites: All rounds except the semifinals and final are on campus. First-round games are March 1 and second-round games are March 3. Sectionals are March 9-10. The semifinals (March 16) and final (March 17) are at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia.

Field: A total of 48 teams advance, 35 via automatic qualification.

Selection date: February 25.

2000 champion: Calvin.

Contending teams: Calvin, Carthage, Chicago, Gustavus Adolphus, Hampden-Sydney, Washington (Missouri), Wilkes, Wooster.

Players to watch: Dave Januzzi, Wilkes; Horace Jenkins, William Paterson; Derek Reich, Chicago; Jarriot Rook, Washington (Missouri); Jeremy Veenstra, Calvin; Jason Wiertel, Carthage

The previous year's runner-up has gone on to win the Division II Men's Basketball Championship four times, including each of the last two years (Kentucky Wesleyan, runner-up in 1998, champion in 1999; and Metropolitan State, runner-up in 1999 and champion in 2000).
