Four student-athletes who excelled off the field and played pivotal roles in their teams' on-field success have been named Academic All-America Team Members of the Year in their respective divisions.
The quartet highlights the Verizon Academic All-America Spring Men's and Women's At-Large Teams announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Georgia Institute of Technology golfer Bryce Molder was recognized as Team Member of the Year in the men's university division. He set the record for lowest stroke average in NCAA history for a season (69.39) and career (70.75) and tied the NCAA record for lowest round (60). Molder placed fifth in this year's Division I Men's Golf Championships and tied for 30th at the U.S. Open.
The Team Member of the Year in the men's college division was track and field standout Brad Parris of McMurry University, a senior multidisciplinary studies major who was among nine of 15 college division first-team members to maintain a perfect grade-point average throughout their collegiate careers.
The University of Arizona's Andrea (Neary) Dutoit, one of the nation's top collegiate pole vaulters, and Ithaca College's Brooke Andrews, a standout lacrosse goalie, were named Team Members of the Year in the women's university and college divisions, respectively.
Dutoit set school records for the pole vault indoors and outdoors and had the third-highest collegiate vault in the nation this year. Andrews led her team to the Division III quarterfinals and finished in the top five nationally in goals-against average and save percentage. She was named this year's Empire Eight Conference Player of the Year.
The Verizon Academic All-America Teams are selected by a vote of the 1,800-member CoSIDA. Nominees are varsity starters or key reserves who maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.200 (4.000 scale).
