Three national office staff members -- all at the director level -- have announced they will leave the national office this spring.
Jane C. Meyer, the NCAA's director of education outreach since 1999, has announced that she will assume duties as senior associate director of athletics at the University of Iowa.
Also, Athena Yiamouyiannis, director of membership services, and Cristie A. Sexton, director of enforcement, have announced their intentions to pursue other educational interests.
Meyer, who joined the NCAA staff in June 1999, fulfills a void at Iowa left when Christine Grant, former director of women's athletics at Iowa, retired in the fall. Iowa has announced that it is merging its men's and women's athletics departments under the direction of Athletics Director Robert A. Bowlsby. Meyer will help oversee that merger.
Meyer has served at Iowa before, having been an assistant to the director of athletics from 1990 to 1993. In that role, she helped staff NCAA and Big Ten Conference championship events. She also was a graduate assistant at Iowa from 1988 to 1990.
Meyer graduated from Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1982, then went on to obtain both her master's and doctorate degrees from Iowa in 1988 and 1992, respectively.
In her two-year tenure at the NCAA, Meyer administered programs relating to gender equity, Title IX and student-athlete development/welfare. She also served as the Association's primary spokesperson on Title IX and gender equity.
Before coming to the national office, Meyer had been the associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator at the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, since 1993. She also served as interim director of athletics there from January through June of 1998.
Sexton joined the national office staff in January 1995 as an enforcement representative before being promoted to director of enforcement in October 1998. In the latter role, Sexton was responsible for supervision and evaluation of enforcement representatives, including the assignment and oversight of numerous cases involving major violations of NCAA legislation. Sexton also was responsible for presenting cases before the appropriate NCAA committee on infractions.
Before coming to the NCAA, Sexton was an assistant district attorney for the state of North Carolina. She also had served as an associate attorney for a Fayetteville, North Carolina, law firm.
Sexton obtained her bachelor's degree from Clemson University in 1988 and her law degree from Campbell University in 1992.
She intends to continue her educational interests by pursuing a second undergraduate degree in the fall.
Yiamouyiannis, who has been director of membership services since 1996, joined the national office staff as a legislative assistant in 1991 after having served for eight months as a national office intern.
As director of membership services, Yiamouyiannis supervised membership services education team projects, including speaking engagements, video conferences, NCAA Regional Rules Seminars, the Compliance Assistant Software program and the coaches certification program.
She also supervised the operation of the membership services telephone interpretation process, including the monitoring of the automatic call distribution system. In addition, Yiamouyiannis was a liaison to the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics for seven years.
Yiamouyiannis earned her bachelor's degree from Ohio State University in 1989 and was a member of the school's cross country and track and field teams. She went on to earn a master's degree in sports management from Ohio State in 1991.
