The Dietary Supplement Resource Exchange Center (REC) plans an April launch for its promotional campaign encouraging NCAA student-athletes to take the REC home with them this summer. The promotion consists of fliers with tear-off tabs providing the REC toll-free telephone number and Web address.
"Athletes need to know that reliable information about dietary supplements is only a phone call or mouse click away, even during the summer," said Rachel Olander, REC resource specialist. "The REC is a year-round supplement-education program sponsored by the NCAA for student-athletes. They need to be using it at times when they don't have ready access to their coaches and athletic trainers."
The REC will be mailing fliers to all NCAA head athletic trainers in early April for posting in athletic training facilities, locker rooms and other locations accessible to student-athletes. The fliers also will be available online at www.drugfreesport.com/rec for easy downloading.
The NCAA began subscribing to the REC, which is housed at the National Center for Drug-Free Sport, in August. Since then, the REC has fielded more than 1,300 inquiries about NCAA-banned drugs, dietary supplements and NCAA drug-testing policies.
The REC staff can be reached via the Web site (www.drugfreesport.com/rec) or the toll-free number (877/202-0769).
