The deadline for nominating students for the John McLendon Memorial Minority Postgraduate Scholarships Award Program is February 2.
The postgraduate scholarship program is under the direction of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), and nomination forms have been mailed to every four-year NACDA-member athletics director.
The awards are for minority students who intend to pursue a graduate degree in athletics administration. All nominations must be in the NACDA office (not postmarked) by February 2. Nominations may be mailed, shipped overnight or faxed. However, only submit the nominations one time.
To be nominated, a student is required to meet federal guidelines for definition as a minority, including Black, Hispanic, Asian or Pacific Islander, and American Indian or Alaskan Native; be a full-time senior at some point during the 2000-01 year; have a minimum grade-point average of 3.000 (4.000 scale); be planning to pursue a postgraduate course of study in athletics administration within five years of receipt of the award; and have demonstrated leadership qualities on a college/university or community level. Students who are not of the listed origins but who have married someone of the listed origins are not eligible.
Five winners will receive a $10,000 grant to be used toward postgraduate studies. The winners will receive their awards at NACDA's 36th annual convention June 10-13 in Salt Lake City.
Questions on the program or requests for additional nomination forms may be directed to Laurie Garrison (lgarrison@nacda.com) or Brian Horning (bhorning@nacda.com) in the NACDA office at 440/892-4000.
