The NCAA Hall of Champions and the NCAA Foundation hosted the first Stay in Bounds Open charity golf outing at Broadmoor Country Club in Indianapolis August 27. Nineteen of the 23 member institutions in the state of Indiana sent athletics department representatives to the outing.
Stay in Bounds is the education program for the Hall of Champions, serving as a community-outreach effort to children in grades 3 through 8. The program reaches children through nine recreational leagues in Indianapolis and through road shows at schools within a 25-mile radius of the city.
The mission of Stay in Bounds is to build good character, foster responsible behavior and encourage enjoyment of healthy competition and cooperation on the playing field and in everyday life. The program has impacted more than 25,000 children since its inception in January.
Donations and sponsorships during the golf tournament raised more than $50,000. The money will be used to reach children in school systems that cannot afford to send their students on the Stay in Bounds field trips.
