About 1,700 delegates are expected to attend the Association's 95th annual Convention January 6-8 in Orlando, Florida.

Divisions II and III will act on 80 legislative proposals during their January 8 business sessions, 46 for Division II and 34 for Division III. Division II's primary legislative focuses will involve amateurism and Bylaw 15 deregulation while Division III will address important financial aid issues, among other things.

Division I will have no legislative activity but will conduct January 8 forums on amateurism and basketball issues.

For the first time, the Convention will include a series of Association-wide educational sessions, which will be conducted January 6. Among the topics are the hiring, promotion and development of women and ethnic minorities; the effect of violence on the sports culture; commercial and corporate athletics sponsorship agreements; an advanced session on Title IX compliance, conducted by the Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights; and implementing athletic training services.

The annual Honors Dinner will begin at 7:30 p.m. January 7. At that dinner, the Association will honor Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen, a former basketball player at Bowdoin College, with the Theodore Roosevelt Award -- the NCAA's highest honor.

During the awards dinner, the NCAA also will recognize the Today's Top VIII (current student-athletes) and the Silver Anniversary Award winners (former student-athletes). Also, three Appalachian State University assistant football coaches will be recognized with the NCAA Award of Valor during the Honors Dinner, while three Outstanding Sportspersons of the Year will be recognized during the January 6 delegates reception.

NCAA President Cedric W. Dempsey will deliver his annual State of the Association address during the opening business session January 7.
