Behind all-around champion Jamie Natalie, host Ohio State claimed its third National Collegiate Men's Gymnastics Championships team title April 6.

The Buckeyes scored a season-high 218.125 to edge out Oklahoma, which ended up with 217.775, for the title. Ohio State had a slim lead going into the final rotation, and a season-high team score on the vault clinched the crown. California finished third at 216.775, while Michigan and defending champion Penn State rounded out the top five.

"I couldn't have asked for a better ending," Natalie said. "We're the team champs. And winning it at home is so much better. This was one heck of a week for me."

Natalie, a senior, claimed the all-around title for the second straight year with a 55.700 score. Teammate Raj Bhavsar finished second in the event at 55.150. California's Cody Moore finished third at 54.775.

"Jamie and Raj carried us all night long," said Miles Avery, Ohio State head coach. "When someone else didn't do that well, they stepped right up. I knew they had the talent to finish one and two in the all-around competition. They just did a great job."

Bhavsar, a sophomore, also claimed the parallel bars title during the individual event finals with a 9.412, while teammate Daren Lynch won the vault with a 9.5.

Minnesota's Clay Strother, who finished fifth in the all-around competition, was the only gymnast to claim two individual titles, including floor exercise and pommel horse.

"I really wanted to help our team make the finals," Strother said. "It was sad to lose it by about a tenth of a point. This makes me happy, but I wish my teammates were here on the floor with me."

Penn State's Chris Lakeman won the rings with a 9.55, and California's Michael Ashe repeated as horizontal bar champion with a 9.512.

"It's great that I can repeat because it is a hard thing to do," said Ashe, who is just a sophomore. "There's so much added pressure to repeat, so I'm just happy to be able to deal with that pressure."
