COMPLIANCE -- Rules compliance guide available online for first time

This year, for the first time, the NCAA is making the 2000-01 Guide to Rules Compliance available on the NCAA Web site at: http://
www.ncaa.org/databases/regional_seminars/.

Each individual attending the 2000 NCAA regional rules-compliance seminars will receive a hard copy of the guide. Compliance coordinators, directors of athletics, directors of admissions, conference commissioners and conference compliance administrators who did not attend a seminar will receive a hard copy of the copy of the guide after the seminars. Directors of financial aid who did not attend a seminar will receive the Guide to Financial Aid section. The guide is also available through the NCAA Web site (www.ncaa.org).

The Guide to Rules Compliance contains educational material prepared by the NCAA membership services, enforcement/student-athlete reinstatement, education services and governance staffs. The Guide to Rules Compliance should be used in conjunction with the NCAA Divisions I and II Manuals as a supplement to the Manuals, not a replacement.

The dates and sites for the seminars are April 26-28 in Nashville, Tennessee; May 10-12 in Long Beach, California; and May 31-June 2 in Orlando, Florida.

FACULTY -- Drake Group proposes academic reform package

A collection of faculty calling itself The Drake Group has recommended five reform proposals for college athletics.

Among other things, the proposals would remove academic counseling from the control of athletics departments and eliminate athletics scholarships while expanding the availability of need-based aid.

The proposals will be sent to the faculty senates at NCAA Division I universities, the American Association of University Professors and other academic organizations.

TITLE IX -- Openings remain for 2000 Title IX Seminar

The NCAA Title IX Seminar, scheduled for May 16-17 in Indianapolis, has a limited number of openings available. The seminar is free to administrators at NCAA member institutions and conferences, but it also is open to the general public for a fee.
