Loyola Marymount has hired Betty Werner as senior woman administrator/associate athletics director. Werner has fulfilled similar responsibilities at Arkansas State for the past year and a half.
Before joining Arkansas State, Werner worked as an athletics administrator at Eastern Kentucky from 1996 to 1999. She also served as women's athletics director at Drake from 1974 to 1979 before being promoted to associate athletics director, a position she held for eight years.
A member of the first NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee and a former Midwest Regional chair, Werner is an ex-officio member of the board of directors for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. She also is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators.
Werner earned a bachelor's degree from Tulsa and a master's degree in education from Missouri.

Francis Marion named Murray Hartzler as athletics director ... Jean B. Chandler was chosen as interim athletics director at Clark Atlanta. Chandler, who most recently served as associate athletics director at the school, succeeds Richard Cosby ... Joe Mahan was selected as interim athletics director at Hood, succeeding Eric Dennis. Mahan will continue to work as head volleyball coach at the school ... Lee G. Fowler accepted duties as athletics director at North Carolina State. Fowler succeeds Leslie Robinson ... Stuart Robinson, associate athletics director at New Paltz State for the past five years, was chosen as interim athletics director, succeeding Jim Zalacca. Robinson, a member of the NCAA Men's and Women's Soccer Rules Committee, will continue to serve as head men's soccer coach, a position he has held for nine years.

Incarnate Word chose Tina Patterson as senior woman administrator. Patterson will continue as head women's soccer coach at the school ... Mars Hill named Laura Timmons, head women's basketball coach, as senior woman administrator ... Dayton promoted Cindy Hartmann to senior woman administrator, replacing Megan McCallister, who assumed the senior woman administrator and associate director of athletics position at Michigan. Hartmann has been Dayton's assistant athletics director for compliance since January 2000.

Scranton selected E. Springs Steele as faculty athletics representative. Steele currently serves as acting chair of the department of theology/religious studies.

Men's and women's track and field assistant -- Rana Reider was chosen as assistant women's coach at Clemson.
Men's and women's volleyball assistants -- Rich Borawski accepted duties as an assistant coach at Long Island ... UC Irvine named Mike D'Alessandro as associate head men's coach.

Wrestling assistants -- Virginia hired Jim Harshaw as an assistant coach to replace Brendan Buckley. As a member of Virginia's wrestling program from 1995 to 1999, Harshaw was a 1998-99 all-American, earned three Atlantic Coast Conference championship titles and is tied for first on the school's career wins list with 102 ... Rick Schweitzberger was added as an assistant at Simpson. Schweitzberger was a 2000 graduate of Buena Vista, where he was a two-time all-American and three-time national-qualifiying wrestler at the school.

Administrative -- Joe Baudo was appointed as assistant to the director of athletics at Fredonia State. For the past two years, Baudo has been an assistant men's ice hockey coach at the school ... Leonard Kaplan was hired as senior administrator for physical education, athletics, intramurals and recreation at New Jersey Institute of Technology. Stewart, who has been an outside salesman for Best Distributing Company of Greensboro (North Carolina), Inc. for three years, formerly was associate director of admissions at the school for five years.
Development assistant -- Jack Griffin was named as assistant director of development for athletics at Northwestern.
Facilities -- Aileen Kowal was promoted to director of facilities and events at Rutgers.
Marketing -- Eric Dennis assumed duties as director of athletics marketing at Chicago State. Dennis most recently served as director of athletics and recreation at Hood.
Media relations -- Holy Cross hired Larry Napolitano as coordinator of athletics media relations. Napolitano has been sports information director at Merrimack.
Media relations assistants -- John Romo assumed responsibilities as assistant director of media relations at Minnesota ... Tracy Cervone and Eddie Suarez were added as sports media relations graduate assistants at Rutgers ... Matt McCullough was selected as athletics media relations intern at Albany (New York). McCullough was a production assistant for the Tar Heel Sports Network in 1999-00.
Recreation -- Albany (New York) named Maria Moon as director of recreation and intramurals. From 1999 to 2000, Moon served as assistant intramural director at Rensselaer.

Strength and conditioning assistant -- Rutgers appointed Bill Graybush as assistant strength and conditioning coach.
CONFERENCES
The America East Conference extended the contract of commissioner Chris Monasch through June 30, 2003. Monasch, who has led the conference since June 27, 1997, is a member of the NCAA Division I Management Council, Division I Baseball Committee and the Committee on Athletics Certification. The conference also chose Marjorie Adams as assistant director of communications, Danielle Peterman as administrative intern and Megan Zeager as marketing and communications intern. Adams has been an athletics communications intern at Cornell since August 1998. Peterman and Zeager are May 2000 graduates of Delaware.
The Mid-American Conference chose Lori Montgomery as director of marketing and hired Dave Youngers as media relations assistant.
Bernadette McGlade was appointed as coordinator of women's basketball officials for the Southern Conference.
The South Atlantic Conference named Dennis Switzer as assistant to the commissioner. For the past 15 years, Switzer has been a sportswriter with The (Rock Hill, South Carolina) Herald.
ASSOCIATIONS
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America hired Craig Bohnert as assistant executive director for communications.
CORRECTIONS
New York City Technical College was incorrectly identified in the September 11 issue of The NCAA News. The school is a provisional member in Division III.
A Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet action was reported inaccurately in the September 25 issue of The NCAA News. The cabinet supported a recommendation from the Men's and Women's Basketball Rules Committees that Division I institutions have a shot clock and red indicator light mounted on each backboard by the beginning of the 2001-02 season. In addition, each Division I institution must have a game clock that shows tenths of a second.
