Winter Championships Preview -- Division III Women's Basketball

Field: The championship provides for a maximum field of 50 teams. Eighteen first-round games will determined teams to participate in 16 second-round games.

Dates and sites: First-round games will be Wednesday, March 1, on campus sites. The second round is Saturday, March 4, on campus sites. The quarterfinals will be on Friday and Saturday, March 10-11, on campus sites. The semifinals and final will take place at the O'Neill Center in Danbury, Connecticut, on Friday and Saturday, March 17-18.

Championship results will appear in the March 27 issue of The NCAA News.

Championship notes: Two-time defending champion Washington (Missouri) is riding a 62-game winning streak, the longest for any basketball team for any division, men or women. With returning 1999 all-tournament team members Alia Fischer and Tasha Rodgers, the closest finish Washington (Missouri) had this season was an 11-point win. Six other regions, however, boast teams with one or no losses on the year, including Cortland State with a 21-0 record with the conference tournament remaining. Scranton, which finished fourth in 1999, has posted a 21-1 record this season behind three returning starters from 1999 and four seniors.
