Field: The Division III Championships Committee has approved a qualifying procedure that allows for a maximum of 200 student-athletes, up from 158 in 1999.

Dates and site: March 10 and 11 at Illinois Wesleyan.

Information/results: The fax-on-demand telephone number is 770/
563-1133 (pin code 1915); request numbers are 1584 for dates/site/
schedule, 5272 for qualifiers, 5273 for day one results, 5274 for day two results and 5275 for finals-only results. Championships results will be published in the March 27 issue of The NCAA News.

Championships notes: The distance medley relay will be contested for the first time. The last decade has belonged to Lincoln (Pennsylvania) and Wisconsin-La Crosse. The two institutions were the only ones to win team titles, with each capturing five. Lincoln claimed the last two crowns. The Lions traditionally are strong in the sprints, hurdles and jumps, and this year's team seems to be no exception. Dayne Ross and Roland Whiting, who last year placed second and fourth, respectively, in the 55-meter dash, currently are ranked first and third in the event. Lincoln's Chris Cobbs has the country's best time thus far in the 55 hurdles. Wisconsin-La Crosse should run its streak of top-five team finishes to 15. In seven of the championships' 14 events, the Eagles are represented in the top five qualifiers thus far this season.
