The Division III Women's Volleyball Committee will forward a recommendation to the Division III Championships Committee to rearrange current site-selection criteria for the Division III Women's Volleyball Championship.

The recommendation was one of several made during the committee's annual meeting January 5-8 in San Diego. The majority of proposals affect championship formats and regional realignments.

The committee wants to rearrange site selection criteria to "remove inequities with opportunities to host." The committee cited the current criteria as unfair for schools that are "geographically challenged." The new selection criteria would have seeding (first round only) and rotation of sites (three previous years) take precedence over geographical location, attendance history and revenue potential. Through this action, the committee hopes to promote growth and visibility for Division III women's volleyball.

Regarding championships competition, the committee recommended that the official traveling party be increased from 17 persons to 22. While the squad size maximum would be 17 persons, the extra five spots would be filled by coaches and school administrators who wish to accompany the team.

In determining the championship brackets, the committee recommended that to be considered for selection from Pools B and C, an institution must have played 30 percent of its matches against in-region opponents. The change will be applied to the 2001 season to give schools an opportunity to schedule future opponents accordingly.

In another action, the committee recommended that for the 2000 season, Thomas More College, located in Kentucky, be moved from the South region to the Great Lakes region. Thomas More requested the switch because most of its schedule is played against schools in the Great Lakes region. Also recommended for realignment was the entire state of Missouri from the South region to the Central region, beginning with the 2001 season. Missouri teams would have the option of making the switch for the 2000 season if they so choose.
