Championships notes: In 1999, Amherst kept Williams from having a sweep in Division III men's and women's tennis. The Lady Jeffs defeated conference rival Williams, 5-2, for their school's first NCAA team championship in any sport. The two teams once again are battling for conference bragging rights. Never far from the winner's stand is Washington and Lee (17-3), which won three titles in the 1990s and is having an excellent season so far. Gustavus Adolphus , the host of this year's championship, is the top team in the Midwest and recently posted wins over Emory and Washington and Lee. Trinity (Texas) is favored for this year's title. Led by sophomore Lizzie Yasser, Trinity went 3-0 at the Fab Five Tournament hosted by Washington and Lee in late March.
