Championships notes: Williams defeated Kalamazoo for its first Division III men's championship in 1999 after a runner-up finish the previous year. Seven-time champion Kalamazoo is looking for its first title since 1993. Kalamazoo coach Timon Corwin said, "The team wasn't satisfied with how they performed in the last match of the year. One of our goals is getting back to the championships and playing better there." Kalamazoo's lone loss to a Division III school this season was at the hands of Averett. As of late March, Kalamazoo defeated Emory and Sewanee. UC Santa Cruz was picked as the preseason favorite to win its fourth Division III championship in five years. The Banana Slugs are led by senior Thomas Oechel, who won both the singles and doubles titles at last year's championships.
