Championships notes: Perennial powerhouse Lander has had a few surprises so far this season. The seven-time NCAA Division II champions defeated defending NCAA Division I champion Georgia, 4-3, in February. But the Senators took their first losses in three years to an NCAA Division II opponent in early March when they fell to No. 2 West Florida and No. 5 Valdosta State. They lost their No. 1 ranking and possibly their momentum. Meanwhile, West Florida suffered losses to Valdosta State and Ouachita Baptist. Valdosta State then lost to Ouachita Baptist. If any of these teams can take advantage of the mayhem, it could be the end of Lander's dominance come May.
