Championships notes: Defending champion Abilene Christian and St. Augustine's are the only two institutions to win the title since 1982. Abilene Christian has compiled 10 championships and St. Augustine's eight. Those two schools should be in the title hunt once again and may be joined by New York Tech and Western State. Nic Alexander in the 100-meter dash, John Kemboi in the 800-meter run and Terrance Woods in the triple jump currently have the nation's best performances in those events for Abilene Christian, which won its fifth straight indoor track and field title in March. St. Augustine's strength is in the jumps, where Dane Magloire (long jump) and Tim Rusan (triple jump) both are second on the current performance list. Western State's impact will be felt in the distance races, led by defending 10,000-meter run champion Michael Aish. New York Tech has two of the division's top sprinters in Paston Coke and Kesrick Fraser.
