Sports sponsorship: The Northeast-10 Conference has announced the addition of men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field as a championship sport, effective in fall 2001. "I am pleased that track and field will be added to the wide array of championships already conducted by the Northeast-10 Conference," said Commissioner David R. Brunk. "This is just another example of the conference commitment to the Division II philosophy by offering championship participation opportunities to a variety of student-athletes." Northeast-10 institutions sponsoring men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field include: Bentley College, Bryant College, the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, Pace University, Southern Connecticut State University and Stonehill College. The Northeast-10 currently sponsors 15 sports including baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, field hockey, men's golf, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis, softball and women's volleyball.
Milestones: Millersville University of Pennsylvania's Gene A. Carpenter coached his 300th football game at the institution on September 23 when Millersville defeated Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, 38-30.
