Hawaii Pacific found its way back to the winner's stand with a 15-2, 15-7, 15-6 victory over Augustana (South Dakota) in the Division II Women's Volleyball Championship December 2 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It is the second title for the Sea Warriors.

Two-time defending champion Brigham Young-Hawaii did not make the tournament, and Hawaii Pacific took advantage. The Sea Warriors steamrolled opponents in every round of play.

The championship match was no different. Debbie Sant'Anna (16) and Susy Garbelotti (14) combined for 30 kills in three games to overwhelm the Augustana defenders. Despite Lori Fossum's and Lindsay Voss' 11 kills each, the Vikings could not produce enough offense to change momentum.

Hawaii Pacific's Nia Tuitele and Augustana's Kari Peterson had 38 and 35 assists, respectively, in the match.

In semifinal play, the Sea Warriors downed California (Pennsylvania), 15-10, 15-0, 15-3. Augustana knocked off North Alabama, 15-4, 15-9, 15-5.

All-tournament accolades went to Hawaii Pacific's Garbelotti, Sant'Anna, Tuitele and Flavia Gabinio. Augustana saw both Kari and Katy Peterson named, as well as Voss and Sara Larson. North Alabama's Nesrin Seckin, West Texas A&M's Shannon Stroud, Grand Valley State's Kathy Vis and Ying Xiu of California (Pennsylvania) also were named.
