Awards: Corte McGuffey of the University of Northern Colorado and Rachel Price of the University of North Alabama have been named the Division II Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year by the NCAA Division II Commissioners Association. The award, given for the first time this year, is sponsored by Disney's Wide World of Sports complex. The Division II Commissioners Association earlier named 16 regional scholar-
athlete award winners. McGuffey and Price were selected from a field of eight men's regional winners and eight women's regional winners.

"We are all very proud of the quality student-athletes that Division II institutions produce and happy that this award will recognize this outstanding talent," said Tom Brown, commissioner of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and president of the Division II Commissioners Association. "Disney's Wide World of Sports complex has helped Division II in many ways and we are grateful for its support of this program."

In 1999, McGuffey captured the Harlon Hill Trophy as the nation's top Division II football player. The biochemistry major maintained a nearly perfect grade-point average while throwing for a Northern Colorado record 2,893 yards and 31 touchdowns. Price, a standout volleyball player, also carried a nearly perfect GPA while earning a double-major in physics and chemistry. Price and McGuffey both were awar ded NCAA postgraduate scholarships to assist them in their pursuit of advanced degrees. McGuffey is considering a future in professional football or pursuing his medical degree. Price began postgraduate work this fall on her Ph.D. in biomedical engineering at Purdue University.
