Two new members have been elected to serve on the Division II Management Council, along with an existing member who was elected to represent another conference.
The two new members are Anthony Capon, faculty athletics representative at the University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown, representing independent institutions, and Michael J. Kovalchik, athletics director at Hillsdale College, representing the Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The existing member is Bruce Harger, athletics director at Drury University. Harger has represented independent institutions for the last two years but now will represent the Heartland Conference, with which Drury is now affiliated.
Capon
Capon has been faculty athletics representative at Pittsburgh-Johnstown since 1991. He has been active in NCAA affairs, serving as a member of the Division II Amateurism Project Team and as chair of the Division II Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee. He also is the Division II representative on the Division I Amateurism and Agents Subcommittee and Division II vice-president of the Faculty Athletics Representatives Association.
Capon has a bachelor's degree in economics from the College of the Holy Cross and a master's and a doctorate in sociology from the University of Virginia.
Kovalchik
Kovalchik is entering his fifth year as director of athletics at Hillsdale College, where he also serves as chair of the physical education department.
Before coming to Hillsdale, Kovalchik was director of athletics at Grand Valley State University for seven years.
He also has held similar positions at Jamestown College and Ohio Northern University. He has coached wrestling, football and baseball at the Divisions I, II and III levels.
Kovalchik previously served on the NCAA Baseball Rules Committee and is a member of the Division II Legislation Committee.
A two-sport athlete at Eastern Illinois University, Kovalchik earned his bachelor's degree in physical education. He holds master's degrees from Eastern Illinois and the State University College at Cortland and a doctorate from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
