Field: The Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet has approved a qualifying procedure that allows for a maximum of 270 student-athletes.

Dates and site: Arkansas will host the championships March 10 and 11 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Information/results: The fax-on-demand telephone number is 770/563-1133 (pin code 1915); request numbers are 5265 for day one results, 5266 for day two results and 5267 for finals-only results. Championships results will be published in the March 27 issue of The NCAA News.

Championships notes: The championships will be held someplace other the RCA Dome in Indianapolis for the first time since 1989. Arkansas gets a home-site advantage it most likely does not need. The Razorbacks have won 15 of the last 16 titles, including the last four. Melvin Lister and a strong middle-distance corps will lead Arkansas into this meet. Lister has the best qualifying marks thus far this season in the long and triple jumps. He was the Razorbacks' only individual champion in 1999 after the winning the triple jump. James Karanu currently is seeded second in the mile run, third in the 3,000-meter run and fifth in the 800-meter run. Stanford placed second each of the last two years and will rely once again on its distance runners to key its challenge for the title. The Cardinal's Michael Stember is the only one ahead of Karanu on the mile run top times list.
