Championships notes: With an eight-year winning streak, Arkansas will attempt to tie the championships record of nine, set by Southern California from 1935-43. The Razorbacks also will be aiming for their second straight sweep of the Division I men's titles in cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field, a feat they have accomplished five times overall. Arkansas once again will rely on its distance runners and jumpers. Melvin Lister is the defending long jump champion and had the best performance in the division as of April 19. Adam Dailey has the third-best time in the 10,000-meter run and three Razorbacks are among the top eight in the 1,500-meter run. Stanford placed second in both 1998 and 1999, and figures to mount another significant challenge to Arkansas. Gabriel Jennings (1,500) and Brent Hauser (10,000) currently have the nation's best times this year. Coby Miller will lead Auburn's attempt to better its fourth-place finish of a year ago. Miller is ranked first in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
