Shaheen, Collins appointed to director positions

Rochelle M. Collins and Gregory A. Shaheen have been selected to fill director-level positions in the national office.

Collins will serve as director of professional development while Shaheen will be director of the Division I Men's Basketball Championship, operations.

Shaheen became a familiar figure within the NCAA when he was chosen to direct the relocation of the NCAA national office from Overland Park, Kansas, to Indianapolis.

He also has served twice (1997 and 2000) as director of operations for the Division I Men's Basketball Championship, developing a computerized communications network for the Indianapolis Local Organizing Committee.

Shaheen's full-time employment has been with the Long Electric Company of Indianapolis, where he served as director of human resources, director of project management, controller and chief administrative officer.

Before that, he was vice-president of the Bright Sheet Metal Company; vice-president and controller of the Evergreen Development Corporation; director of new station development for Heftel Broadcasting; and sales manager and systems designer for Computer Works, Inc.

He also is a board vice-president of the Indiana Sports Corporation.

Shaheen has a bachelor's degree in business from Indiana University, Bloomington.

Collins

Collins has been with the NCAA staff since 1990 and currently serves as senior youth programs coordinator. Her primary roles have been administration of Youth Education through Sports (YES) clinics and management of the National Youth Sports Program (NYSP). YES is a nationwide program that is administered at various NCAA championships. The NYSP operates at 193 institutions with an enrollment of about 69,000 youths annually.

Before joining the NCAA, Collins was assistant athletics director for fund-raising, marketing and promotions at North Carolina A&T State University. She also served for two years as athletics promotions assistant at the University of Michigan. She began her career as athletics director and girls' track coach at St. Mary's of Redford High School in Detroit.

She has a bachelor's degree in business admin-istration and marketing from the University of Texas at El Paso and a master's degree in sports administration from Wayne State University (Michigan).
