Championship notes: West Coast teams have been exerting their dominance in the sport throughout much of the season. Long Beach State, Pepperdine, Southern California and UCLA all have traded the No. 1 spot at some point and will be vying for the West Coast bid. Defending national champion Brigham Young has made it as far as No. 4 in the polls and will surely look to be in Fort Wayne at the end of the season, possibly via the at-large bid. Ohio State has made a strong late-season surge to earn a top-five ranking, while Penn State is struggling to stay in the top 15. The East and Midwest region bids are up for grabs. Ball State, Lewis, Ohio State and Indiana/Purdue-Fort Wayne all are in the running.
